I’m really close to the end of the school year (only 2 days left!!!), and I’m really looking forward to getting extra time to play music over the summer. My summer goals for music (some whistle related, some not) are:
- Whistle- Work through Grey’s Ultimate Guide (esp. the more advanced ornamentation)
- Whistle- Piper’s Grip: I can play fine with normal grip, but I think eventually I might get carpal tunnel or something from using normal grip on low whistles for decades (I’m 14, and planning to play whistle for a long time.)
- Whistle- Work on memorizing tunes and learning by ear (I’m waaaaayyy too attached to sheet music. Maybe I should lock my sheet music up for the summer…)
- ITM- Listen, Listen, Listen
- Concert Flute- Practice, practice, more practice, sight reading, more solos, practice, overtones, and whatever else my teacher starts me on (did I mention practice?)
- Concert Piccolo- Get playing experience. I don’t get too many chances to play, so I just really feel like I’m a beginner at it, even though I’m told I sound really good, and recordings I have of myself sound fine.
- Organ (mostly church music)- I keep trying to get serious about learning to play the organ, but it’s never worked. Maybe, possibly, I might be able to do it this summer. I can play simple left hand things (once I get warmed up reading bass clef) and most right hand things, but I can’t stick the two together. I keep trying at it, but usually I get frustrated or busy and quit.
Does anyone else have summer goals for music (mainly whistle) that they’d like to share?
