Stupid Question!

Ok…don’t throw rotten veggies at me for this one!!! How do I know which whistles play in which keys and then how do you play in the different key? As in, how do you change the #/nat to the opposite? Does this question even make sense? sigh…I don’t think I’m getting enough sleep…its the WhOA, you know…

Strangely this question has cropped up just about daily for a week or so now. Check out Dale’s page on whistle keys and do a search using the little [search] button below the bold “Chiff and Fipple Forums”. Oh, and the question is not stupid.

I think we all started there at one time or another. if anyone had told me it was a stupid question…I probably wouldn’t be playing whistles today. You will get there. GM

WWB,
It’s not a stupid question, it’s an excellent question and one that gets asked often.

Dale has brief explanation on the main http://www.ChiffandFipple.com site. For a more extensive discussion, the best I’ve found is the article by Jos Hindriks which you can find at: Irish](http://www.geocities.com/novairishsession/modes/modes.html%3EIrish) Modes and the “D” Tin Whistle

If you need a little brush up on general music theory, (like I did when I started whistling,) Teoria books has Online](http://www.teoria.com/reference/index.htm%3EOnline) Muisc Theory Reference that provides fairly easy lessons on intervals, chords, and scales.

Hope this helps you …

I have been playing for nine years now, and I am still asking questions on playing the whistle. And some times I feel real dumb or DUH! when I do get an answer.

And these kind people on this board will answer all or any of your question either on or off topic.

Ask away!
