Stupid question: foot keys installation

you can install keys on the flute’s foot when are not present?

thanks in advance

It depends on the foot (bore, whether the vent holes are in the right place for the notes etc.).

Ask the maker. Some have a “dummy foot”, which has two holes, but they aren’t in the optimal position for C and C#. Some, however, have them in the correct position for them to be added later. In some cases the maker might be able to make new segments, as well. Ask the person who made your flute.

Many modern makers don’t even offer foot keys anymore.

many thanks for your aid, my friends.

I had Peter Noy make a one-key flute for my small-holed flute. It really rocks! But that flute is designed for a short foot, so no adding C and C# keys, which I would love. I’ve asked a couple of other makers about a a small-holed flute with three foot keys, but found no takers. I prefer forked fingerings to all those keys, but play a lot of tunes that go down to C, so I guess I’m odd.
