Stuck Whistle

I have a burke low-d viper that I purchased from Doc sometime back. It has a great feature that lets you turn the bottom joint out of line to accommodate your right hand better.

I tried to take the thing apart for cleaning, and found out that it is stuck tighter than a tick. Does anybody have any ideas to loosen it up without damaging the whistle? I have already tried the hot water thing. Nothing but a burned hand to show for it.

Try tapping the joint gently with a PVC-hammer or a similar non-metal object. If it’s corrosion that makes it stick, shocking it may loosen it.
Heating won’t work if both parts get warmed up. It should loosen up if only the outer part expands due to the heat.

erm … I’d check with Michael before I go trying to dismantle that foot-joint.

Last Viper I had here - It seemed like the foot joint was permanently installed - rotates fine but does not come-off.

Michael’s whistles are often more than they seem - he’s a very thoughtful maker. I’d hate to get the thing off only to find that it was never meant to come off in the first place.

These are not cheap whistles.

Never mind. All it took was a powerlifter with really strong hands.

Ronbo, your little statements are too funny. You have me rolling

Thats odd. Mine just pops right off

Mine does now. Who says brute force doesn’t work? I was ready to turn it over to Michael before the piper next to me says “let me look at it - see it moves” and proceeded to pop it apart. I wasn’t about to argue with him.
