Stuck on a tune again...

I recorded a set of 3 reels off the net last month and finally got around to trying to transcribe them. I can’t identify this tune. The recording was poor quality and the 3rd measure of the B part was pure guess-work on my part because the flute and concertina/box player decided to play harmony parts there. Does anyone recognize a real tune here? This is the last tune in a set which included Micho Russell’s and Paddy Ryan’s Dream (or a varient thereof).

I sure hope Seamus Ennis never recorded this tune!

It looks almost like a semi-harmonized setting of The Pretty Girls of Mayo, which apparently lends itself to lots of variation. If there were harmonies going on anyway, maybe this was actually a harmony line, and one of the other instruments in the mix was playing something closer to the “standard” tune? Just a wild guess.

Yes, I see your point. I suppose this could be a version of Pretty Girls of Mayo. It’s certainly not the version I am familiar with. The A part is pretty solid as the melody instruments played the same line thoughout

I wish I could remember where I snagged the recording from. It’d be a lot easier to just make a reference to the url where I heard it in the first place so that folks could listen directly. Next time I won’t let so much time go by before I write these things out. Thanks!

A version of the “Shaskeen” reel?
I’ve always thought of the Shaskeen and the Pretty girls of Mayo being quite similar.
