STTT: Vulcan Lyre construction plans.

I know it says Vulcan Harp, please take my word for it, though it looks more like a member of the harp family, it’s actually properly termed the Vulcan Lyre.

beats that whistle

so, ya gonna make one?

can you get your ears to do that?

If I find a Vulcan to mind-meld with me will I be able to play one of those forevermore?

I noticed a distinct lack of photos of any Vulcan lyres successfully built to those specifications or, indeed, of any form of recording that might indicate that such plans are workable and capable of producing a satisfactory instrument. It is not as if I was trying to make a lyre out of anyone but …

Fascinating.

Indeed, the design appears to be most logical.

I always liked that episode where the space hippies want the Enterprise to take them to Eden. It would be neat if the lyre sounds like the music they had on the show.

That’s brilliant.

Seems like the plans might have a few problems.

But for 95$ you can buy a non-playable version.

$95 is just the shipping fee!

Oops, right you are.

Are you telling the terrestrial truth?

Here’s a clip with Spock playing the Lyre: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmgYMTO6Th4

The plans are flawed, badly flawed, but with some creative effort and a lot of tools, the harp-- it’s eaier to call it that than a lyre-- is doable. But it is both difficult and expensive. If you want to do it really right, it is incredibly expensive and difficult because some of the materials are hard to come by.

Doable, yes. If it’s worth doing at all, that I can’t say at moment.

Doctor? THE Doctor? Can’t you make one with your sonic screwdriver?

Better made with a good miter saw and a router. Although if the sonic screwdriver can get money from an ATM, that might help a lot too. The trick is avoiding all those pesky security cameras.

'Doc

Who?

djm

Which doctor?

That’s right.

Okay, bad Abbot & Costello jokes aside, the Doctor is the lead character of the long running British sci-fi series, Doctor Who. It started in 1963 the week Kennedy was killed and has been going-- on and off-- up til now with ten actors in the role of the Doctor.

Unlike other shows, whenever a new actor came along, he was given completely different wardrobe and style of clothes to differentiate him from the guy before so each “Doctor” was unique-- but all of them representing one basic character. The concept of “regeneration” made it possible for several different actors not only play the Doctor, but also his enemy the Master, and several of his companions and friends. A really neat show…

But when I was growing up, a preacher friend use to come over to our how and when he came in the first thing he always did was yell up to my rooom, “How you doing, Doctor?” – this long before anybody ever heard of Doctor Who.

The Doctor, Welcome aboard…

…but if you can’t get aboard get a plank.
