My mates and I are playing some tunes at a few Head Start classes tomorrow (Monday), and we thought it would be nice for the kids to have a little story about each instrument. Anybody know any nice (and short) stories about whistles I could tell these 3 and 4 year olds?

BTW, when I tell the story, I always end it with that (sorry for my english, i tell that in my language):
…and no one have ever seen neither the piper, nor these children. But the rumor is that somewhere far in Alp mountains there is a valley, and the town in that valley. People who are happy, friendly and never lie live there. That’s the rumor, but no one knows for sure.
That makes the story not evil, but somewhat noble

I know a few russian fairy tales that involve “fipple flutes”, but I doubt anyone have ever bothered translating them.

I love telling whopper stories to children. When friends were visiting, i bought another C whistle and I was finally able to strap 2 whistles together and play them at the same time. Their son, who is probably is the 1st grade said Mr. Timmus (from Narnia) has a whistle like that. I replied, “Oh, you know him too? I just had lunch at his house last weekend. We played a duet. Wanna hear the song we played?” Some kids are more gullible than others and the best place to place a whopper is between two truths. This kid bought into it for awhile but checked with his Dad.
Once upon a time there were three whistles, Daddy Whistle (C) Mummy Whistle (D) and Baby Whistle (G).
Baby whistle is too high. Mostly I play on Mummy whistle. Daddy whistle gets played a bit too, but he likes different tunes. Mummy whistle likes jigs and reels and Daddy whistle seems to like waltzes. Baby whistle likes to sleep a lot so he doesn’t get played that much. But that’s fine with him.

Maybe you could redo “The Captain’s Shirt” involving whistles, but it’s been a long day at work and that’s beyond me right now.
