We are starting a ceili band in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada - look out Tulla et al !!!
My question is, when this band is ready for competitions, where in Canada & the US do we go? I assume we must qualify in N. America before going to Ireland.
You can find info. about the Midwestern Fleadh Ceol which qualifies you for All Ireland at
What is Ceili?
Is it a type of music?
Is it regular IrTrad music played by a band with specific instruments?
Is it music played by sea-loving mammals that get eaten by polar bears?
Sorry to be so clueless but if it’s Celtic I’ll probably like it.

Watch the “C” (Celtic) word on the message board, Doc. Some are very sensitive to how the word is used. Something to do with record companies, marketing and homogeneity. It’s sort of controversial and can spurn lots of debate. I’m not saying you can’t use the term “Celtic” but don’t be surprised if somebody gets on your case about it.
And Ceili bands are dance bands; ceili being the Gaelic word for a dance or party. The style is quite different from your Chieftains, Bothy Band, and Lunasa type groups. You’d have to hear it to understand.

Aaron
