St.Louis TIONOL coming in April

Really looking forward to this! I’ll be the one with the yellow flute and Band-Aids on every finger (reedmaking workshop).

There’s a cream for that you know

Patrick.

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone (though I’ll be in the Harp Workshop).

Do people tend to go out to dinner together? My fiance can’t come on the trip due to work so I’ll be solo.

Great job Mike and company!! Lovely folks, good craic, had to leave much too soon. Looking forward to next time!!!

We love seeing everyone. its all over too soon. Thanks to all who came out and supported the weekend. Please don’t hesitate to email me - mmullins@tionol.org with any thoughts, suggestions, etc.
We’ll see you next year - April 15-17 - save the date.
All the best,

What a fun weekend! Just finished ordering my first round of reedmaking stuff from NPU – and so it begins (yes, that huge sucking sound was the last of my money going down a cane tube).

Anyway, this is my 5th year going to this thing and it just gets better and better. Mike and crew put on a first-class act (not to mention a pretty decent pot of tea) – I’m amazed at the level of people you get in to teach, Mike, especially for just a few days (although thanks to the volcano this year’s teachers from overseas may be here a bit longer :boggle: ).

I’m absolute toast today, but am already looking forward to next year. Larry’s taken some nice photos; when he gets them sorted and posted I’m happy to send links to those of you who attended, etc. Just PM me if you’re interested.

Thanks again, Mike, and to everyone who made it so terrific. I feel so lucky to live within a few hours of such a terrific event.

P.S. The high point of the weekend (even over Jo-Jo the Wonder Reed): tunes with KAD. !!!

Aw, shucks. Great to see you too, Cathy!

Cheers

Actually, that sucking sound was your sanity and free time flowing down the proverbial drain.

Seriously, best of luck. Great reeds are being made all the time. It IS doable. Put in the time and gain the reward of autonomy!

Thanks, Kynch! We were so fortunate – we had a day and a half working with Jim Wenham, and then Benedict Kohler dropped in Friday after lunch and showed us how he makes reeds. I mean, how many places does that happen? It was fascinating to compare and contrast. The main thing I got from both of them was that there’s no use in being afraid of making a bad reed. So, since I’m going to make a lot of bad reeds on the way to the occasional usable one, I might as well get going!

Also, since Jim made my chanter, it seemed insane not to see how he makes reeds for it.

All in all, a great experience. I feel very lucky for the opportunity.

Cathy, I’m never afraid because I know I make bad reeds! You did very well with Jo-Jo, though, congrats! It was great meeting you, and thanks again for the tunes and letting me try out that boxwood Olwell - let 'er honk!

Fantastic weekend, great atmosphere and lovely people - very well done, Mike. This was my first time at the tionol, but it won’t be the last. Can’t wait to retire so I can go to these all the time.

Best,
Mark
