Did anybody get around to taking a picture of their home made square chanters? Search turned up no pics.

No photos… but here’s a link for inquiring minds:

sorry no photos as i don’t have the camera or knowledge of how to post. but i built one and it turned out quite nice. very in tune, even both E’s. it looks very normal on the outside= round. i tuned it to a childress reed, found it a great way to store a spare reed and keep it playing. it is a little quiet, like a narrow bore, but is very well behaved and plays better than a lot of them. ![]()
best, tansy
Tansy, then just ship it to me and I’ll take some pictures of it, or better yet, just put it on that lovely sailboat of yours and ship the whole thing up here to the Puget Sound. I really do think the whole idea of a square bore sounds interesting. That would be really something if square ended up being better than round (that sounds really square, I know). What kind of glue did you use?
PS…no I can’t ship the camera to you. ![]()
hi lorenzo, i used one part polyurethane for the sides and bottom, after clean up , put the top on with silicone( had to remove it twice to get it in tune,undercuts, etc.) then i glued the top on with crazy glue. i made it out of teak which was the best wood i had. it seems very stable and is almost 4 years old with no failings.
the problem with all this for a novice maker and begining piper is the reeding of it. i had two “real” chanters before i ever got it playing. but it wouldn’t have to be that way. i really like it now.

i think the square bore has great possibilities for a regulater , using fallen chanter reeds, for a single tenor reg ![]()
Hi Harry,
here’s a couple of pics of mine…
Thanks Octdoc, looks good.
So you shaped that from four different slats of wood? Fair play to you!
Any chance you or some other brave soul would post a sound clip? (pushing my luck
)

Harry.
