Rather than resist the influx of irish tunes on my whistle, my guy has started to try to learn the guitar parts to irish songs. Does anyone know of any guitar tab sites to help him along?
It would be easier if you explained what he wants to do. There are no such things as “guitar parts” to Irish music in the same sense that there are diffeent parts in an orchestra or band. Guitarists can either play with a plectrum or fingerpick and they can either play melody or accompaniment. They can also play in standard guitar tuning or some other tuning. DADGAD is popular. Most play accompaniment with a plectrum (flat pick). Most of the Celtic guitar sites with tabs that I’ve come across on the web feature finger-picked melody tabs. There are some books and videos available on accompaniment.

I have a Mel Bay book and CD combo. “Mel Bay Presents DADGAD Tuning” by Julie Henigan. It has 13 tunes written out with both the music and guitar tablature. It’s in my pile of “might do someday” books so if you ever have questions about it I’ll try to answer them.
