Does anyone know if there are sound file hosting services, similar to the image hosting services one can find on the 'net?
My church choir has begun to do some recording, and we want sound files to be accessible from our website…but we don’t really have the bandwidth to make that terribly practical (we do have one song up on the website now, but downloads are often rather shaky). I’m wondering if I can find a third-party site from which such files could be downloaded.
BTW, if anyone wants to hear our recording, DON’T get it from the website…email me and I’ll send you an mp3. It’s the 23rd Psalm done as Anglican Chant, and it’s quite lovely.
Trying this free service, just for grins and chuckles (if it works, heck…the price is right!).
Would anyone who is so inclined try downloading this song and letting me know if there are any problems? (partial download, skipping, etc.). It’s relatively large (around 2700 KB), so it takes about 30 seconds to download (and don’t do it at work, if you could get in trouble for listening to music!). Warning: This is a church choir, so the song is religious in nature (it’s the 23rd Psalm in Anglican Chant), so don’t have a listen if you’re offended by such things.
Well, I’m one of three altos, but that’s as much as I can narrow it down for you, I’m afraid! Don’t s’pose it would help to say I’m the short, fat, 40-something with reddish hair and glasses!
It hasn’t been on for a while, but Vicar of Dibley (in fact just about anything with Dawn French in it) was one of my fav’s.
We don’t make much here that I find funny. “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” used to be funny, but the funniest guy on it, Rick Mercer, moved on to do a couple of series on his own. His “Mercer Report” can be hysterical (for a Canadian) at times, but its mostly local jokes. I don’t know how much of it would translate.
I use Soundclick to host my uploaded music. It is free. The caveat is that uploaded songs must be public domain or you must hold the copyright. There is no bandwidth limit per se, but during certain busy times of the week, the site does bog down.
Some other musicians I know use AcidPlanet. Terms are similar. Any teenager can probably tell you about some of the free underground sites, however, that may not be a nice home for church choir songs.
I think MySpace allows short sound clips. Don’t know if they allow full songs.
RW–I was able to download and listen without a problem. Sounds good to me. I like your setting of the 23rd psalm–it’s also on the St. Paul Cathedral series of the psalter. My choir uses a different setting, but I like yours better. Must convert the choirmaster…
Redwolf,
The download and quality work great. Less than 10 seconds on my broadband connection.
Strange coincidenses. from age 10 to 19, I was a member of the St Pauls Episcopal Church Choir in Mt Lebanon, PA. Where I sang Soprano, Second Soprano, Alto, and Tenor. As a teen we got to sing in the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. Your recording brought back fond memories of those times.
