I have a sound clip that I had heard and love the sound of it and want to know if ANYONE has heard it and can tell me who the artists are, name of a tune, something so I can track down the CD. It’s a live clip with at least 2 fiddles, accordion, drums, etc.
I know there aren’t any whistles in the track and this is a whistle forum, but you guys are all I have!!! I didn’t know who else to turn to!!!
Anyway, give it a listen and hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction or at least tell me where else I might be able to find the answer.
I can’t swear to it, but that could be a “bootleg” of a live recording of a performance by Lothlorien. In fact, when I heard the intro with that rumbling bass I thought it might be one of the tunes on their Greenwood Slide CD (but it’s not)…
…Okay, took a few moments to listen to my Lothlorien CD and that clip probably isn’t them. While that clip is definitely reminiscent of Lothlorien, they usually feature more flute/whistle, bouzouki, and (especially female) vocals along with the violins. Even absent those elements the arrangement brings Lothlorien to my mind, though. In any case, it’s similar enough to some of Lothlorien’s stuff that if you enjoy that clip you would probably enjoy a Lothlorien CD.
Lothlorien is a band out of New Zealand. They have a web site and used to have a CD (Greenwood Side) on mp3.com until mp3.com went to the (greedy) dogs.
Thanks, Bill, for the name of the tune and the Leahy lead. I’ll be checking into that one. Hopefully the name of the song will point me in the right direction. I probably should have posted more of the clip in case it was a group of reels, as I’m sure it is. Perhaps i will.
Thanks, OoB, for suggesting Lothlorien. I happen to be a huge fan of the Tolkien trilogy. I’ll track down some clips of the group and see if they can stand up to the great name in my book. Iw as hoping if my question was never answered I would get some great leads on similar sounding tunes/groups.
It was from Michael Flatley’s other creation “Feet of Flames”, which is an expanded version of Lord of the Dance.
I think they did the dueling violins at the Lord of the Dance show I saw (nobody danced to it, I think), but worked the piece into the dancing production for Feet of Flames under the title “Dueling Violins”
-edit-
..And indeed, looking into it more it’s not on the LOTD soundtrack, but it is on the DVD between “Gypsy” and “Breakout”, the title in LOTD is “Strings of Fire”.
It is indeed from “Feet of Flames”!!! Hooray!!! Thank you very much, Dan! Dan the man!!! Danarino!!! Dan-o-rama!!! Danoooo…!!!
I listened to a snippet of the soundtrack on Buy.com. It is indeed the song.
Now as far as exactly where this piece came from that I have posted, is that recorded from the DVD to include the crowd whoopin’ it up or is there a live rendition existing somewhere on a CD? For whatever reason, I enjoy the exuberance, the crispness of a live recording.

P.S. Bloom…don’t try and confuse the whole issue with the facts.
Bloomfield, I know you’re smiling in your post – but there are no doubt people out there who don’t know that “The Castle” and “Dick Gossip’s” are one and the same.
I happen to know it but only because I looked it up before commenting. I’ve always run into a bunch of songs that have the different names.
Just recently a friend of mine was playing a tune on his fiddle. I knew the tune but couldn’t remember the name of it. He called it “Red-Haired Boy”. Then when listening to a CD I finally heard the tune again and said “AHA!!!” I knew it as “The Little Beggarman.” I’ve also seen it called the “Ol’ Rigadoo.” As if I weren’t having enough problems learning tunes!
