Sore Tongue

Many days I play a couple hours of whistle, and lately my tongue sometimes is sore, very sore at times. I’m trying to figure out if this could possibly be from the whistle. Anyone else experienced a sore tongue?? I mean, I’m wondering… could it somehow be from the metal (I play on aluminum, brass and silver whistles)?

Have you been playing an Oak whistle? Some of the older ones have chemicals on the mouthpieces that cause your mouth and tongue to become numb and tingly.

You might be pinching your tongue between your teeth, or between your lower teeth and the tip of the mouthpiece. The effect would be like biting the tip of your tongue (which would be rather painful!). Try keeping your tongue behind your upper teeth if you aren’t already doing so.

Mrs Fool got a sore tounge when trying to play a whistle.

Then she stopped standing on it - and all was well :smiling_imp:

Funny enough, Mr Fipple gets one---- when we are out in the car, and I’m Driving :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello Emrys,
Just a couple of ideas;
-Are you treating the windway with anything to prevent clogging?
-Have you cleaned the windway recently?(some recommend Cascade complete(enzyme action)
-Do you tongue your notes?
That’s all I have to offer! Hope your tongue is better by now.
