Songs we love to love

Hey everyone, just thought this would make a nice companion to the other topic.Yesterday I discovered a beautiful song called Owtlaws by John Saich…anyone heard this?Could be the best song ever written and I’ve been told Capercaillie have recorded it.Any of you singers/whistlers out there like to share your new favourite song or tune? :smile:Mike

Mike,

Great idea; problem is, most of us won’t know where to start! I usually have one or two tunes I’m working on (currently a pipe tune called “Duncan Johnstone”) which takes up most of my waking thoughts…Then there are the old favorites like “Leaving Rhu Waternish,” “The Job of Journeywork” and “The Banshee.”

That’s the (very) short list…
Tom

Thanks Tom,I realize this could be a tough one but sometimes a song or tune comes along that leaves one almost breathless by the sheer beauty of the melody or words and surpasses anything we’ve ever heard, such is the effect of Owtlaws on me and perhaps someone has a new Cd with that one -of -kind knock ya socks off song or tune they’d also like to share.Mike:)

Amazing grace. Thanks Grannymouse and Tom for the lyrics.:smile:Mike

WyoBadger, I love “The Bansee” too (also goes by McMahon’s Reel). I arranged it to play on my Appalachian dulcimer as well. Other favs are “Banish Misfortune,” “Black Nag,” “Rickett’s Hornpipe,” just to name a few off the top of my bald head.
