Just wanted to write and let you know our stalwart organizers have got things lined up for the Louisville Irish Family Fest Sept. 18 - 19, and it’s looking like an especially nice one for flute fans. John Skelton, Frank Claudy (w/ Phillipe Varlet), and Turlach Boylan (& his band Glen Road) are all on the schedule, and I think they’ve managed to arrange things so that each of these great players will also be hosting a 45-minute workshop or session at some point. SO, if you’re going to be somewhere in the general Louisville area that weekend, this is definitely worth a drop-by!
Didn’t I see on the webpage that your group was playing opposite John Skelton on Sunday (maybe it was saturday, it has been a while since I checked). Bummer of a scheduling conflict.
But, I guess I’ll manage with a bit of tent hopping.
Why Byron, there is no choice … definitely go see John.
(In fact, while I’m way depressed at having to miss his go, I can’t tell you how relieved I am he won’t hear mine )
Should we try for our mini-flute-summit (you too, Jeannie, plus anyone else in the neighborhood), maybe at one of the sessions?

While I’d love to meet everyone, I’m still trying to juggle my plans for the weekend.
Originally I was going to come over on Sat, Sat night, and Sun. Now I want to see the Varlet/Claudy concert on Fri night. I don’t know. I’ll find a way.
If I do make a session I’ll be leaving my flute at home. While my playing is improving daily, I think I’d enjoy listening/watching more. After all, I’ve never even been to a session before.
If you need a place to crash, let me know. And for heaven’s sake, do bring your flute, because you have to jump into the pool sometime. This is Louisville, after all – we’re all about getting better together, so don’t worry, you’ll be among friends!
Thanks for the invite, but my Mom and sister still live in L’ville. In fact, I lived about 3 blocks (up Princeton) from the festival site for six years or so back in the mid-eighties. So, I know I can at least find the thing.
My reservations are more of the “too many chores at home” type.
As for bringing the Dixon, well we’ll see. I’d hate to divide my attention and not get the most out of either (playing/listening). I think there’s alot I can learn about ATM by just being there. May be the best lesson for me at this point.
