Sometimes I amaze myself...

About six months ago, I wittled a whistle/flute out of a stalk of bamboo, and it has become somewhat of a primary [flute] instrument for me. Less than 10 minutes ago, I was sitting alongside with my mother, who was singing karaoke to the Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers, and I dedided to accompany her. I have never heard myself play so beautifully, and it was all by ear. I am not one to admit things like this…but I came close to crying. Anyone else feel sensations like this when they play?

On occasion.

I’ve cried while playing, but not because it was beautiful. It might have been sympathy for those within earshot.

I’ve cried in instances like that too. I remember once, I played the theme to Once Upon A Time In The West…on my Generation G. I cried because I forgot to wear earplugs! :boggle:

If you really want to abuse your ears, try playing a fife. Higher pitch than a flute, melodies always in the high octave, and side-blown so the pain has a more direct path to your right eardrum.

:astonished:

I’ve played a fife. I don’t seem to have ear-splicing problems. But…it does seem to have an effect on other people…Hmm…

I’ve not experience this myself, but I know many people who have after I’ve played…and I honestly can say it’s not because of how WELL I played

Okay, I’m game…what is ear-splicing? Is this some medical procedure performed on fifers to put them back together after they have been split?

Inquiring minds don’t really care…

Nope…but maybe it could be. I was simply referring to high notes and such…ones that were uncomfortable to the ear. :boggle:
