Around here (the UK) it tends to be India Pale Ale - IPA for short - because it was designed to continue to ferment in casks on the boats to India, for the members of the Raj.
For various reasons, not all of it ever got to India. They still call it IPA though.
Our local not-a-micro-Brewery, Rebellion, does a very nice IPA.
