Some Good Deeds Get Noticed

I just wanted to brag on Lesl Harker and Veronica MacNamara for a minute:

Lots of people take music lessons, but few people go to the trouble Lesl has to not only learn from hers, but to transcribe and organize and thus preserve the tunes she’s gotten from Mike Rafferty over the years. And then there’s Ronnie MacNamara, who’s gathered the tunebooks from James Morrison’s fiddle lessons and published the tunes in their handwritten form – both are invaluable resources for people who are into this stuff. I know I’ve benefited so much from their hard work and enthusiasm and treasure the tiny insights I gain from a closer look into the minds of a couple of Irish music masters. I think it’s really cool Comhaltas is doing this.

Congratulations, Lesl, & since I don’t know if Ronnie’s much into the boards, please pass best wishes and gratitude on to her, too!

Lesl deserves some serious respect…

Very serious respect..

Slan,
D.

Props are due also to our own Stevej, aka Brother Steve, for his work in preserving and transmiting Packie Manus Byrnes’ memoirs and his hoard of tunes:

thank you  I’ll pass this along to Veronica as well!

There are others too.. the great-grand-nephew of Dinny Delaney, piper Pat Mitchell comes to mind..
