Some Cliche Tabs-anyone?

Umm…a…umm…a friend-yeah a friend(!) asked me to see if anyone might now where one could find on-line tabs for:

Whistle part from Titanic
Lord of the Rings whistle tab
Revival in Belfast CD (specifically the whistle leads)

I know, a bit of a cliche, but…ya know.

Merry Christmas!

PS (If you know of anymore “cliche” tabs, please post)

As you can see, they’re all afraid to admit it even if they do know.
I diddled out parts of the Titanic theme for myself, by ear (a shameless admission,) an exercise which, imh(and completely unreliable)o, locks it into the brain cells better anyway.

Unfortunately, they are copyrighted, so it will be difficult to find these. Any site with the dots would be in violation of copyright. The site would be legally liable, open and shut case, if the copyright holder chose to go after them (and they do on occasion). As Emmline suggested best to try to learn them by ear. It may help to get a slow down program such as Audacity.

Well, I took up the whistle late this year, and, with my whole family being rabid LOTR fans, I was ordered to learn the opening riffs from “Concerning Hobbits.” I did so by ear and from memory, and my interpretation may not be exact! :stuck_out_tongue: If it doesn’t violate the rules of the site or infringe on copyright, I’d be happy to post the “X’s” and “O’s” of what I’ve figured out. I’ll be guided by the veterans here on the forum.

While not a veteran, might I make a suggestion?

Laws are tricky and lawyers even more so…I’d hate to think that this forum could be held partly liable if someone publicly posted copywrited material on it. Why don’t you 2 just do a bit of private e-mail collaboration concerning your shared hobby–as long as neither of you is making money off of this, I think it’d be no different than one guys sending the lyrics to a favorite song on the radio to the other. As long as you’re not performing anywhere, just playing for your own pleasure, I’m thinking it’d be no different than me singing (or trying to sing) something I heard at a concert a week ago or on the radio last night.

I just wouldn’t do it publicly where a publisher might legitimately feel ripped off. (Does that make any sense, or do I sound like a real worry wart? thinking to self–now where did I put that Compound W?! )

I think it is just sick that we have to even worry about such matters in the first place. What a crock.

Yup. S’pose yer right about that. You know, when I was in a garage band covering Led Zepp and Van Halen tunes, nobody cared. Now, everyone sues everyone else. You know, if someone writes a song that I like, and I learn it and teach it to a friend with no intentions of profiting, there should be no recourse for the lawyers. How are we supposed to learn anything? :swear: (Sorry for the rant…)

Geeze. Next thing you are going to tell me is that I can’t download MP3’s off the net  A crock indeed (in reference to sharing tab). Hey, how about this…We type in all the tabs in reverse and use pig latin for the title! Thanks to everyone and Merry Christmas!

PS ummm…if anyone needs to wish me a Merry Christmas, you may do so at Jeffx10@yahoo.com

It is hard enough to make any money as a songwriter without everyone seeing your work as public domain. Admittedly, the copyright holders of works in question are loaded with money, quite loaded. However, they deserve the same protection that a poor starving songwriter deserves. If they choose to make their work public domain that is one thing, but stealing from them is just as bad as stealing from anyone else. Just because someone has a lot of money doesn’t mean it is open season on them.

Maybe there will come a time when copyrights are meaningless and all authors and songwriters will get paid nothing. It is that way in some parts of the world, a world without royalties, and I do not think their cultures are superior.

There are plenty of songs that are public domain–choose one of them. There is also the option of learning by ear (no dots), a little bit of effort, and in my mind, far better than resorting to theft. If a person must have the dots, he/she can always bite the bullet and pay for the sheet music.

And ya didn’t even ask about the thing Capn Kirk played on the recorder in that Star movie..

On Jun 01, 2002 this issue came up and “Blackbird” posted the following:

“In a previous thread on this topic, someone said that this tune is really an old hymn called Terra Patris, written by Franklin L Sheppard, 1915. I did a search for it, just using Google, and found the tune. I’ve learned it, but haven’t checked it against the soundtrack, so can’t say for sure if it is correct.”

Just search the archive.

…Cap’n Picard (and he was finger-syncing, not playing)
