SOLD: Perfect, Irreplaceable, Magical Olwell Boxwood Flute

Hi, it’s me. I have held onto this flute through all flute sales over the years. It has that extra something special that cannot be described in words. Of all the (about 15) Olwells I owned at various times, this was the only one I kept. I tried to get more like it, but the ones I commissioned from Olwell didn’t begin to approach this one. Miraculously, it is in better than new condition. The boxwood is glorious in appearance (figure, color and glow) and was never varnished, so it smells incredibly nice. It’s a Nicholson model keyless D flute with no metal at all, which I think adds to the magical feel and playability. Everything about it is perfect. It comes in a padded case (the background in the photo). SOLD.

If this is anything like the all-rosewood Olwell Nicholson I got from Jessie lo these many years ago, someone got an amazing flute!

I hope whoever bought it will post a review/sound clip. I got an all-boxwood Olwell Rudall from Jessie some years ago that is also a fantastic instrument. I’d love to hear this Nicholson all-boxwood to be able to compare it.

I am just hoping that Jessie still has a flute to play. I have always enjoyed her presence here (not that it is a prerequisite).
Flute ownership I mean.

I almost bought that flute myself, but the fact that the third flute section is crooked in the photo kind of turned me off at that price. For a perfect flute I do want that section inline with the others.

Well, Doug, things that are magical are seldom perfect by muggle standards…

So then…perfectly standard muggles are seldom magical things?

You should have mentioned this earlier.

Folks, my comments were just my poor attempt at being humorous. The first photo that Jessie presents is good in that the flutes pieces are inline with each other and about equally spaced. However, in the second photo the pieces are somewhat jumbled together and touching. Now my obsessive-compulsive disorder would never allow that to happen. Maybe Jessie was trying to appeal to two different personality types. Perfection appeals to me but not disorder.

Doug, if it’s of any consolation, I got the joke.

Cheers,

Kirk

And yet:

DELIGHT IN DISORDER.
Herrick

A SWEET disorder in the dress
Kindles in clothes a wantonness:
A lawn about the shoulders thrown
Into a fine distraction:
An erring lace which here and there
Enthrals the crimson stomacher:
A cuff neglectful, and thereby
Ribbons to flow confusedly:
A winning wave (deserving note)
In the tempestuous petticoat:
A careless shoe-string, in whose tie
I see a wild civility:
Do more bewitch me than when art
Is too precise in every part.

Methinks that Herrick’s written arts
Were o’er-concerned with women’s parts.
When clothing doth the poet vex, he
May confound what’s sex and sexy.

Magical flutes are a dime a dozen, where are the haunted flutes? And not haunted just by a nobody, by someone famous, who hopefully knows which Immigrant song I wanna hear.

Good one!

I have it on good authority that one of our forum members (I’m not mentioning names) has started to make haunted flutes, and he is famous by Chiff and Fipple standards. Whenever he gets the chance, he takes them to a nearby mausoleum to allow the departed souls to play through him on these flutes. I know that it sounds spooky and weird, but, like I said before, I think that in this case, it is true. I’m sure that you could buy one of these haunted flutes for much less than the rather ordinary though perhaps perfect Olwell flute pictured in this ad topic.

Hmmmmm…Sooo… If a flute player is playing a little off par, could be a haunted flute or departed soul playing through them?

Sa-weet. Could a person get a flute haunted by multiple entities or does the Fajardo wedge keep the spirits from interferring with each other? Could a person select the entities to haunt their flute or is it strictly first come first serve? Are some entities disturbed and causing trouble because of the holographic sparkle rings? I don’t want no troubles but I do want the blues.
