My newly-acquired grandchildren love to go to the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis, IN, which, if I am not mistaken, is the largest children’s museum in the USA and, perhaps, the world. As a former student in geology, I am especially fascinated by the dinosaur part of the museum. I love to see 5-year-old, Maddy (short for Madison), with her safety googles, measuring tape, and digging tool remove the rock material away from the exposed dinosaur bones in the dinosaur dig site. Be a kid for just a little while and take the virtual tour. dinosaurs
Thanks Doug.
I never did grow out of my childhood Dinosaur Phase. ![]()
when my oldest was in 3rd grade, another parent and I pretty much “taught” science for the class (the teacher said science was her weak point). For one activity, we set up a dinosaur dig in the sand volleyball pit at the school. The kids have a great time, and I think learned just a bit.
I like the idea of dinos alright, but I’m not
so sure I would like the real thing.
Here is a poetic effort of mine on
the subject.
T-Rex
Here comes Tyrannosaurus Rex.
It’ll eat you sure as hell.
Don’t pause to contemplate its sex,
Assume it’s male and then make tracks.
She’d eat you just as well.
One from the archives:
Dinosaur Blues
Take me back to the Mesozoic
Because here I don’t feel so heroic
I’ll admit that I’m not a stoic
And I’m suffering from the dinosaur blues.
My scaly armour’s wearing kind of thin,
I’m just not happy 'bout the state I’m in;
In fact my bones are showing through my skin
And I’m suffering from the dinosaur blues.
Take me back, take me back to the Jurassic,
That was a classic!
Get me away, get me away from this old Pleistocene,
Get me a time-machine!
Avians and mammals everywhere I look,
Nobody wants my name in their visitor’s book;
I’m just surviving by some kind of fluke
And I’m suffering from the dinosaur blues.
People lookin’ at me with derision
Might as well be in a cage or prison
There ain’t no hope for an anachronism
And I’m suffering from the dinosaur blues.
I want to be, long to be where the Allosaurs
Go on all fours…
Can’t conceive, can’t believe I’m goin’ to find a happy end
'mong Homo Sapiens!
Things are starting to get away from me,
Although it’s just a question of degree,
I know my brain is just the size of a pea,
And I’m suffering from the dinosaur blues.
I really miss my old primordial muck,
But I suppose I must be out of luck,
Anachronistically I’m stuck!
And I’m suffering from the dinosaur blues.
Tired of keepin’ up with Mr Jones,
Matching my style with busy West-end sloanes,
But I can’t lose this feelin’ in my bones
And I’m suffering from the dinosaur blues.
FWIW, the females were larger and are thought to be dominant. ![]()
Sheeesh! Thank God that’s over.
so you’re saying men are dominant? ![]()
Well, I take Sundays off.
Please don’t tell my wife, though.
Q: Where does a Tyrannasaurus park his car?
A: Anywhere it wants to.
I honestly thought this thread was going to be about the early nineties band called “Dinosaur Jr.”
