what’s that about? Is it purely to allow me to publicly declare those members I am especially fond of and those that I am not so especially fond of? I am kind of scared of just “declaring” things, so I haven’t mustered the courage to play with it.
The Friends thing is like an e-mail address book, and just sets up your chosen few for convenient PMing. Don’t think it does much more than that at this point.
The Foes thing is like a Usenet kill file, and lets you selectively ignore people. When a foe posts to a thread, instead of seeing their post you see a generic foe message, and a link you can click if you really want to read the post.
Your Friends and Foes lists are private to you, and the board shouldn’t give any tip-offs to people on your lists. I think …
Personally I wish it was a “highlight/ignore list”. If you want to play with it feel free to list me as a foe. Then check back to this post. It will just be a bar that you can click on to read my post. You can easily go back and delete friends and foes, so it is easily reversible. You cannot make yourself a foe (or friend) so to play with it you need to choose someone.
A generic foe message? What on earth does that mean? Just some message telling you that the post was written by a foe? Ooooo…I might put Denny on that just to see what comes up
That is a completely silly system. I mean, it’s good that I can friend/ignore people, but calling it “Friends and Foes”? Come on. Let’s not get overly excited, here.
I think “highlight & ignore” would describe it accurately. That is functionally what it is suppose to do (although the highlight-contact list seems to not have the highlight function enabled). “Ignore” has the benefit that you do not have to label a person a foe to ignore them.
