So now, with only a little more than two weeks to go, the question arises…which whistle (s) shall I bring with me to England? For surely I can’t spend two weeks without a whistle!

Then there’s the other burning question…are any of you lovely folks in London yearning for something from California that I could tuck in my suitcase?

I’m getting so excited, I could just about pop! And we’re having to tie our daughter down to her chair to keep her from bouncing off the ceiling! I sure hope the other families who are going are as excited as we are!

I don’t know about the whistle, but bring a heavier sweater than you think you need, and make sure it’s one that ties around your waist easily, because if you’re anything like me, it’ll come on and off constantly depending on the state of the clouds.

Got one picked out already, and a nice big backpack to put it in when I don’t need it.

San Francisco’s the same way, really…I always bring a big sweater or heavy sweatshirt there, even in summer, and something to stash it in when I don’t need it.

This is silly, but you know what I need? A set of dry ingredient measuring cups in US measurements. I want to start collecting simple recipes but any ones on the net in US measurements are a real pain to convert! I managed to get a set of measuring spoons for liquids from a student who was leaving, and I found a glass measuring cup for liquids, but I haven’t found the dry ingredient cups yet…

If you could grab a cheap set it’d be appreciated!

I’d actually recommend layers, rather than one big sweater. I tend to go with a T-shirt and a long sleeve button down shirt on top, so I can roll up sleeves, unbutton front, or take off if really hot. Add a denim jacket over the top for the evenings as it cools down, and you should be fine around London.

You’ll be here in July, which is usually reliably hot & sticky, but you never really know. Bring your own bottle to fill with water, or buy one and keep it. Bottled water is a ripoff. Don’t expect ice machines in your lodgings, that’s a US luxury that hasn’t crossed the pond yet.

And one which you’d only likely find a use for (apart from the pink gins of course) on two days of the year (along with airconditioning). :smiley:
