What is this “octave” people keeps talking about? Is it the notes above and below the staff? Any info would be great. All I really know about the flute is that it sounds great.

Check out Terry McGee’s fingering chart for second and third octave fingerings. The second octave starts on D, the fourth line of the musical staff.

Ah, I just meant flutes in general sound great. I’m getting an Armstrong 104. I already paid half and shall pay the rest and take it home in 8 days, I can’t wait! He played it for me at the store and it sounded nice, I tried and I made some really horriable noise. All the other customers looked at me 
Well I actually played well attempted to play the flute 8 years ago but gave up because I couldn’t make noise at all, atleast I’m improving already, lol!
Oh also, I can’t afford lessons for a long time so does anyone know any good sites or books on teaching it?
A Boehm flute, then I should have referred you to the fingering chart on the following web site.
You should try to get a couple of lessons, somehow, to get you started correctly. Then, lots of practice.

Hi, I really can’t afford any lessons around here for now. So I just paid $10 to join www.danmansmusic.com. They have 270 flute lesson videos, had anyone tried them before? It seems pretty nice so far.
