Snow day

Ahhh…we’re in the middle of a big snowstorm. This is what it meant for my day:

First thing in the morning, both kids piled into bed with me. We had time for a good long cuddle, as church was cancelled.

My daughter tried making pancakes for the first time, and they turned out awesome!! She fed the whole family.

I had some French Vanilla flavored coffee with breakfast. Hubby hates it, but he’s not here today, so I got to have some (bought it last night, in anticipation!).

The kids went online to the NASA spaceplace games and had a ball for a while.

I read the whole newspaper cover to cover.

I am still in my pajamas, as is my son.

The kids are filling out all their valentines cards for school, while they munch on Jelly Bellies (purchased last night, in anticipation). And telling stories/jokes about “Skinny Bill”, whoever that is, and cracking themselves up.

Figure skating is not on the published Olympics schedule in the newspaper, so in about 10 minutes, I will turn on the TV and maybe see some real sport!

At some point when the snow stops, I will go out and snowblow. While this sounds like a not-nice thing, I actually enjoy the exercise and the chance to get outside at the end of the day.

At some point, I will make a nice slow dinner, and eat it.

Tomorrow afternoon, when my son goes to kindergarten, I will go snowshoeing!

Not too bad, all in all.

Robin

Sounds great, Robin, and not unlike my day.

We woke up to about a foot this morning, not bad for the DC area. First thing I did was make coffee, put together a batch of scones and put them in the oven. Shoveled out to the curb while the scones were in the oven; no paper. Had breakfast, burned some CD’s from records and tapes I had digitized. Went out to do the real shovelling. 4-year-old came out and made a “snow fort”, which, given the amount of snow and her size, was basically a ditch in the snow. I piled up some walls for her. I was done shovelling by noonish, at which point, I made beer, vegetable/leftovers soup, and now I’m working on bread, using the spent grains from the beer. I’m about to start a fire.

Life is good.

I can’t believe we missed all of that snow. Nothing. Nada.
I guess that some inland portions of New York arn’t close enough to the coast to get the Nor’easters. If I was still in Central New Jersey, it would have been a lot of shoveling.
We aren’t close enough to the Great Lakes to get the heavy Lake Effect Snows, either.

I guess that’s why my relitives up here had NO IDEA of what two feet of snow is.

I’m not sure if I feel happy or sad about not seeing such a storm. It’s kinda exciting to watch as it unfolds, provided you don’t lose electricity.

Here in Germantown, maybe 10 miles from Chas we also had about a foot. I made poached eggs for breakfast. Then I did a little reading and some whistling. We had ham and bean soup for dinner. We are just relaxing and enjoying the day. Later we will check in with the kids and grandkids by video chat.

Nice day.
