Smart brand whistle in D

Ordered one from Amazon.
Susato look-alike.
Very nice looking. Can be heard from the moon. Hard to play. Croaky and prone to lots of unintended sounds. But fairly in tune with itself, and the low end is loud and pleasant-sounding. High end is a bit screechy. Overall not bad for $15. Good for outdoors, preferably Somalia.
I applied a tweak that I had developed for my Susato’s. I use a piece from the lid of a sardine can. I use it to reposition the point where the blade cuts the air. The edge of the metal becomes the new point of the labium and I position it slightly lower, and slightly closer to the windway than where the point of the factory labium is positioned. Wow, what a change. Lower volume, sweet high end. Unfortunately, the low end volume is greatly diminished. it’s a decent whistle for the money, but with a little tweakint this is a “best buy”.
Final point: the “beak” that you put in your mouth is longer than with Susato. I like that.

New guy here. I’ve practicing for two weeks now and am really liking the tin whistle. I bought a Smart whistle as well as two Feadogs, one in brass and one in nickel.

I kinda like the Smart whistle for my practice sessions. In my newbish opinion, it plays well in the low scale. When I go to the higher scale (which I’m still working on), it’s breathy and I have to put my mouth just right to hit it (not that I hit any perfect high notes on it yet!). I still can’t tell if it’s as screetchy as stated above or my lack of skill. I call it my “beater” and like that it challenges me in the high scale.

I have a Clarke Sweetone that came in yesterday and it is almost effortless to play! I’m sure that once I progress in skill and buy better whistles, I’ll regret even praising the Smart but it’s kinda’ like the underdog of my small collection.

Yesterday and today, I’ve been concentrating specifically on hitting the high notes and then practicing from a small Music Pocketbook by Patrick Conway. I put the dogs out into the backyard to lessen their suffering…

I think my neighbors are starting to resent me!
