hello everyone, I’m new to this forum, and new to uilleann piping as well. I have a program for PC, that some of you might find useful; it slows down audio recordings without changing the pitch. I’ve found it to be very helpful when I’m trying to learn a new tune. It’s a small prog. (less than 1MB), so if anyone would like it, just reply to this post with your address, and I’ll send it to you:-) (or you can e-mail me if you’d prefer). Hope that I may have been of some service to someone. Sincerely,
Michael
Since nobody else has said it, let me be the first to say welcome aboard, Orbis, and your offer is a kind gesture.
My initial reaction to the post was one of skepticism as Orbis is new and was offering something for free. I tend to stay away from that but the offer almost sounds to good. Anyone download this program or know if theres a hitch etc??? No offense to Orbis…could be mere generousity???
Mypipes… I felt the same way and others probably did too. Roger was right giving Orbis the welcome!
Orbis, there are several free slowdown utilities available on the internet. It’s come up for discussion every now & then… however new (and better) things come up all the time. It would be advised to mention the name of what you’re offering. Usually, you’ll find the people posting this type of information to list the URL where the program originally came from.
Check out Henrik Norbeck’s Abc Tunes.

Get the 1600+ free Irish trad tunes, get the unrestricted shareware player /editor, slow down, transpose, shift pitch, add backing chords automatically (or rip them out).
On my AWE64 soundcard and bog standard speakers, playing the .abc files one octave up (put 1 instead of zero in the check box) selecting whistle for melody and acoustic guitar for rythm gives the best result. In irbulk.abc check out “King of the Pipers”. Sure to impress even the most jaundiced listener.
Download another program to convert to sheet music if you’re that way inclined. All this stuff and more is at Henrik Norbeck’s Abc Tunes. This guy is a music superhero!
Hi Orbis! (and thx 4 the offer)
If it is a software you made yourself I would be interested.
I have made a few attempts to slow down wav-files and compensate for pitch in Matlab with various results. Takes an awful long time and is not even close to what I can do with the Amazing Slowdowner in a few secs.

Is it just me… but I see no profiles on the last two solicitations and they join the on the very SAME day of the offer. Where is orbis?? Something rotten in DENMARK??
As you, I haven’t bothered to set up a profile. I joined previous stages of this board many years ago, then using the name SDFK. The current MR signature is dated Jan 18, 2002. The one joining closest to me in time is Roger O’Keeffe but I clearly decline I’m not ROGER, nor have I anything to do with any of his 472 post. And if someone has kept something, too long in the fridge, I do not know. It has been a long time since I visited Copenhagen. Maybe you can ask Jens Hoppe if he noticed any suspicious smell. By the way I’m not him either.
Cheers!

I confirm that disclaimer. I’m just me.
I am new to this forum and new to uillean piping. I have been reading the messages for 2 months and have gotten a lot of good information but not much of my own experience to contribute yet. I recently graduated from practice chanter to drones. I am a physically strong person but stuggling with the physical demand of the added air requirements. I am soaked in sweat after a 45 minute practice. I don’t think anything is leaking and I am wondering if this is normal and it just takes time or could it mean the drones are taking more air than they should and I need to adjust. I don’t have a teacher here and have learned with a tutorial. Thanks for any suggestions.
I am sorry. I probably should have posted my message as a new topic. As I said, I am new to this forum.
Stan,
There’s enough to cope with without having to deal with physical exhaustion as well. You should try to get someone to help you to ease the overall air requirement - including not just the reeds but also the air supply from bellows to bag: I’ve seen a set recently which a beginner was struggling with, and the problem was that the connection between bellows and bag was too narrow.
Stan,
it’s not too late to start a new topic. This will be better when searching the archives on your new topic. Leave this one here… just edit the text out. Roger and I will follow.
Oh, welcome to C&F !!
You could also put “new” or “newbie” into the search engine and see what comes up, then come back and ask for more help if necessary, either on a new thread or by refreshing one of the existing threads whose title indicates clearly that it concerns the multiple traumas of beginners of one kind or another.
I’ve just noticed that there’s a thread on “half set pressure” which indicates that YOU ARE NOT ALONE ////////}}{{###\\</////////
