Is there any free (or inexpensive) slow down software to run on my Mac G4? I run OSx. Maybe I already have it and can’t find it within my existing software bundle that I received when I bought this computer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The latest versions of QuickTime (built into your Mac already) allow you to slow down music, but not with the degree of flexibility that you get with the Amazing Slow Downer. The Amazing Slow Downer also lets you change pitch and you can slow tunes down to whatever speed you want…it’s worth the price (about $50) in my opinion.

That’s the website.
For QuickTime, I believe the free player lets you change speed at set increments…I have QuickTime Pro so can’t check how to do it with the free player but if you look around in the options and preferences you should find it (also try QuickTime Help).
Amazing slow downer works REALLY well on my Macs. I’ve run it on my Ti book and my 4 year old dualie 500.
Also highly recommend “Transcibe!” by Seventh String Software:
The Free, Cross-Platform Sound Editor
Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems.

Should be also usable for slow downing …

I can’t recommend Amazing Slow Downer enough. I love it. I can slow down, and transpose the pitch too. Great for learning stuff from flat pitched pipes and vice verse. I also burn a copy of the modified tune and put it on my iPod so I have a portable lesson I just throw in the pipe case and take it with me.

…and back loading dock areas sound nice too!
I recently found a great dry sewer pipe (about 10 foot square) that sounds great to play in. Right near the beach too. Humidity and reverb are excellent and it doesn’t stink. What more could you ask for? All it needs is a Guiness tapper. : )
