Slightly OT: I hate UPS! UPDATE: I love UPS!

Yaaay!

My new whistles did arrive. I got a Dixon tuneable D, Tweaked Shaw, and a Clare 2 piece.

I’ve only been playing a few minutes, but so far I like them all. The bell note on the Dixon is kind of weak, but maybe I’ll get better at it the more I play it. The Shaw has that nice woody quality. I have to work hard above high G to keep the notes from going to the lower register, but I suppose that’s normal for a whistle like this. And the Clare is great! Nice clear sound.

Edited to delete general frustration at ups.com’s tracking system that says my whistles are still in Chicago.

Correct; this is normal. On the Shaws, it does take some push to hold the top notes in the upper register.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Well I didn’t see your original post, but I’m very curious as to all the wonderful little nitty gritty details of your package, if you don’t mind sharing…

About the tracking system. It’s not 100% reliable because it’s not done automatically, every package is scanned individually by a human package handler. Humans make mistakes, so sometimes packages don’t get scanned, or they get scanned as being sent to the wrong destination. Also, tracking labels often get destroyed by the rigors of shipping, which obviously makes it impossible to track any further. The package keeps going, it just isn’t tracked any further.

It’s my understanding that you can get some kind of refund if the tracking system tells you that your package is not where it’s supposed to be, regardless of whether the shipment is actually on schedule or not.

Btw, what service were you shipping via; next day, 2nd day, or ground?

Ok…ok…ok…

Nate,

My package was shipped Monday, and all week the tracking said that it had arrived in Hodgkins, IL. But nothing else. It never got scanned when it left, and it never got scanned when it arrived here or when it got put on the truck to be delivered, as usually happens. They kept telling me to be patient (I called a couple of times  ), and they were right, but what’s the point of being able to track it if they aren’t consistent at scanning stuff? Had me stressed all week! :boggle: It was just UPS ground shippping. All labels intact.

Robin,
It’s contagious. Sorry.

There’s just something about getting packages that makes me nuts. Sometimes happy, usually crazy. And if I really want what I ordered, look out.
Anyway, UPS is very good with getting stuff to customers on time. If you go to the UPS site and the calculate time in transit option, and put in all the information required(including the orgin or pickup scan,) it will tell you when the package should arrive. Someone I know complained that UPS doesn’t scan at each stop(like Fed Ex does) so sometimes all you get is the orgin and delivery scan.
I’ve been a little nutty with Natasha’s Cafe and the ibrik I ordered. It can’t come soon enough. Not in the same realm of whistle lust - as far as I know, you can’t play an ibrik. But coffee drives my passion as well.
I am obsessed over many things.

As a rural mail carrier I can tell you that the FEDX packages that are delivered to our office for ME to deliver(and now some UPS packages too) are scanned as delivered on the day they are left at the post office. The problem there is that they usually don’t get to the post office until we(rural carriers) have already left the office and are on the road delivering the mail. Therefore, the packages they scanned as delivered are actually not delivered by us until the next day since they can’t seem to get to the office until mid-day.
