Well this is interesting. I’ve never heard of a Grenaditte flute before. So what is Grenaditte exactly? The name suggest to me that it is Blackwood (Grenadilla) substitute. Is Grenaditte used to make a Boehm flute like Delrin is used to make a polymer Irish flute? If it is, I assume it has more of the Irish flute’s woody tone with less brilliance. How do they compare?
I know it is not terribly uncommon for Boehm flutist to use a wood headjoint to obtain a less brilliant tone on their flute. Does having the entire flute made of Grenaditte make a substantial difference than just a wood headjoint?
It seems like we will continue to see more of these man made, synthetics used for musical instruments in the future.
As for Sir James comment about the Muramatsu, I’d have to agree; mine is a dream to play and the tone is dark and rich. I don’t think I’ll be trading it in on a Grenaditte quite yet…
