The above topic is locked. I don’t think the personal abuse on it will be cleaned up and it opened again.
This is not to discuss the content of the topic. This is more about how moderation may handle IMPORTANT topics that get out of line and the above is simply an example of a locked topic that i consider important and interesting.
The thing about an important topic (ie. a topic in a music forum like the flute forum - as opposed to a politics or pub topic) which has a lot of good commentary is that when you lock it, it sinks.
It would be nice if important topics were moderated in a way that cleaned up the offensive material. This would not only salvage the topic but also could in situ train the posters of offensive material about about what is accepatable and what is not.
While that would not be practicable in a pub or other such forum I feel that it would be appropriate for moderation energy in a music forum.
For example, I think Dale’s one and only post in the above topic is a succinct and eloquent policy statement. Should not sink. Also Jim Stone’s post is a rational and incisive one defending the underdog in a spirit reflective of the best ethos from Down Under. Should not sink … And the contributions about sessions and fledgling players are the stuff of major music documentaries in the centuries to come …
