Singing in a chorus! :-{

I’m doing something COMPLETELY different… Charlene and I are going to sing in a choral presentation of Carl Orff’s magnificent Carmina Burana!

Charlene is a very experienced choral singer, but I haven’t sung a note of that type of music since high school so I’m feeling a bit like a fish out of water. Plus, the text is in old German and Latin. Oy vais!

I LOVE this piece, and I’m pretty familiar with most of the music, so I’m hoping to be able to get through it OK. We have weekly rehearsals until the 4/24 performance. It will be held in the acoustically perfect Troy Savings Bank Music Hall: https://www.troymusichall.org/home.asp

Ya think I can convince them to add a whistle part? :wink:

You will have even more fun, Paul, if you read the text in English - before you sing it in its ‘native’ tongue. Very cool…

Cheers.

PS. My blue-blooded dragon bone high C is such a winner… I applaud your knowledge and craftsmanship.

NO. But get there early for practice to enjoy the acoutics with your whistles. Who would stop you from playing one song. Or two.

OH! OH! OH!

you luckey dogges…

I am like, SO jealous…

O Fortuna! :puppyeyes:

Carmina Burana, eh? T’was the marching band song/choreographed show for my daughter’s senior year of H.S. and swan song as a clarinet-playing band wally.

You’ll have a wonderful time! There’s nothing like choral singing…it’s fantastic!

It doesn’t matter if it’s been a while since you’ve done it…it will come back to you faster than you can imagine.

Just remember the old maxim which warns that listening is the most important skill of the choral singer.

That is so true. Listening to others and being able to blend is absolutely vital. I’ve known more than a few wonderful singers who were terrible choristers because they weren’t able (or willing, in some cases) to learn that skill.

Enjoy!

I am jealous!
