Shortly, on June 26th, Sinéad O’Connor’s new album “Theology” will come out. This is supposed to be a sort of “return to form” of Sinéad, singing mostly religious music in a set of more rock-and-roll styles. She has said in interviews that she will only sing this kind of music from now on. I have it pre-ordered and encourage everybody else to do the same!!
Oh. That makes sense. It actually “sounded old” if that makes sense. I think she arranged it, rather than wrote it. Regardless, it’s beautifully performed.
Since when do you have to be Jewish to sing Jewish songs?
There is no one way to “look Jewish,” by the way. One of my friends has red hair and skin as white as paper, and she’s Jewish. Sinéad is a Catholic (Latin Tridentine). She’s an ordained priest, in fact.
So in this week’s People magazine (US version), the album got a “Quick Cuts” Review of 2.5/4 stars. It says that the acoustic CD would have been well enough on its own…I kind of agree. I’ve listened to the stripped-down CD almost constantly and only popped in the more “fleshed out” disk three or four times.
