similarity....

… this may not be the right place for this post… but, i figured it’s whistle related since i play is whistle, and i noticed this sad, striking similarity whilst playing a whistle…

ever notice the similarity between the beginning few notes of “Road to Lisdoonvarna” and the theme to “The Odd Couple?”

i will forever think of Felix Unger and Oscar Madison whenever i hear that song from now on…

be well,

jim

I always hear Con Cassidy’s (A|B2B BAB|d2c A2F|) as The Bear Came Over the Mountain. And the B part of Lad O’Beirne’s (d2Be d2Bd) is the “Nyah Nyah Song”.

And “Oro Se Do” is “What Will We Do With A Drunken Sailor.” (Does anyone know if this one perhaps has a real connection?)

That’s funny. I sometime check out movies from the library, take them to work and watch them at lunch. Today I started The Odd Couple.

One similarity that has always bugged me is that the beginning of Down By The Sally Gardens starts off like the Titanic theme… :really:

I have heard that there is a connection between Óró, Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile and What Will We Do With a Drunken Sailor. Something to do with sailors on Gráinne Mhaol’s ship(s) and whatnot, I believe.

I never noticed that one, but Lisdoonvarna also reminds me of Cooley’s Reel, and the theme to Gilligan’s Island. Some interesting medeley opportunities…

i missed the “gilligan’s” connection. but it does make for a fun medley… esp if the listeners are not warned in advance… the look of recognition/shock is priceless when they realize what happened…

be well,

edit… of course, for this to work, the listener’s need to be old enough to remember the Odd Couple

My favorite is the similarity between the Portsmouth hornpipe and Monty Python’s Lumberjack song.

Also - all the different variations on Lilting Banshee/Ballinisloe Fair.

Also - Darth Vader’s theme(Star Wars) and Spoonfull of Sugar(Mary Poppins).

Aye boyo! Most people forget that Darth Vader graced the Shamrock Shore!
