Hi
I have just started to play the whistle ( try to play) and whilst practicing on my sweetone after a while the top register squeeks and I have to wash the whistle out. Now the wondering whistler says that he had no problems to speak of with a silkstone PVC but unfortunately they are not being made at present so am looking to purchase one elsewhere. Any ideas anyone please, or any other sugestions.
Thanks
Could moisture in the windway be clogging your Sweetone? A drop of dishwashing liquid in there might clear it up.
You would do well to consider the new WD Sweet model whistle in plastic (a polymer). There are NO CLOGGING ISSUES! It is great!! Here is the link: http://www.sweetheartflute.com
Do you mean that you actually run water
through the whistle every time it clogs?
That seems like it would just exacerbate
the problem. Instead, try covering the
windway and blowing really hard to clear
out the condensation.
Hi everyone
Thankyou for your suggestions. I have tried blowing the whisle out mostly but it just gets all squeeky again quite quickly so that is when I just ‘bung’ it under the tap. No respect I know.
I looked at the WD sweetmodel ( with thanks for your sugestion ) but that is $150 - rather out of my price range I’m affraid and I’m only a beginner so perhaps it’s just me ???
I have tried the washing up liquid thing but I think I washed it out too much as I didn’t want to taste the soap ![]()
I have actually just ordered a Guido Gonzato whistle which hopefully will keep me practicing for longer (ggwhistles.com) so I would like to keep you posted if anyone is interested
Thanks again

Hi Pammy,
Some whistles are worse than others, and it seems there are many reasons why. All whistles should be warmed up first before playing, however curved windway’s seem to help, the material the whistle is made of makes quite a difference too.
I have made my own Guido Gonzato’s in D, C, Bb and A. All of these whistles have no real problems with clogging compared to others i own. They have a sweet tone and i think are easy to play, great allround whistles.
I also own a Sindt D, it’s got a lovely tone, and is a great whistle, but i really have to warm it up well before playing as the mouthpiece is made of thick brass. So clogging is something to learn to deal with depending on which whistle you are playing.
Another thing which is important, is how you blow. you can clear the condensation whilst playing, whilst emphasising a note, you can blow the windway clear before it’s too late. So the way you attack a tune is quite helpful too.
I think that you will be pleased with your Gonzato, i love mine
Good luck
thank you chrisp I can’t wait until Sat to get it
How about wooden ones
