I was attempting a conversation with my husband about that Overton low F that I’ve been contemplating (even more so thanks to you NorCal ). And so as I was talking, he seemed to actually be LISTENING Which is rather exciting in of itself since his eyes tend to glaze over when I even mention the word “whistle.” So I tell him all about the Overton and how wonderfully it will sound, and how great I’ll play when I have it, yadda yadda. So then he smiles, and says “What kind of chiff does it have in it?” and I’m like “what? what are you talking about?” and he says “the chiff. is it wooden or plastic?” I really tried not to laugh at him (at least not too loudly). Oh, and I did try to explain the difference, but as I did, his eyes got that glazed look… oh well, maybe next time :roll:
Don’t EVER laugh at a spouse that is trying to understand something that you are passionate about. Instant turn off!!! He will get it once you start playing something that sounds like music to him. Try different genre’s of music to see if it perks him. And keep on talking. Like our kids, we never know when what we are saying is being listened to.
Wait until I show Renee the new Coco TW A that I just got from you!! She will be REALLY excited. She will want to play it right away and will coo and ooo and ahh over it!!! I am such a lucky dog.
My spouse is a hardware dude who at least admires the sturdy handcraftedness of my whistles, even though he’s musically inept…due most likely to a combo of unmusical upbringing and partial deafness. He’s trying to learn sax…a real struggle. Perhaps it’s fortunate that the near-functionless ear is on his right, and therefore NOT the one that processes music.
