Let us not forget the Freestyle Acid House Flamenco quartets visceral tribute to Johnny Weissmuller..“Hey Jane, Let’s do it like the animals on the Discovery channel do”.
Believe me,there is some serious shouting there.

Well, its not shouting, but screaming, which is why I asked. The other difference is that he always managed to make it musical, versus just trying to impress by making a big noise. ![]()

Strictly speaking, I guess Amar’s nomination of DeepPurple’s Gillan should go in the screaming rather than shouting category too.
I’ve nowt against musical screaming, I just think proper Grohl-style shouting is more where my life is at just now

Axel Rose (Guns 'n Roses) - Welcome to the Jungle
Midnight Oil - can’t remember which song…

How about Eric Burdon in some of those early Animals singles? Now that bloke could give out…

That is true. I always loved “I’m Bad”,(like Sonny Liston, yeah) “It’s My Life”, and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”. I’ve got their first album released over here somewhere in this house.

I kept wondering if she would fit into this discussion, since I haven’t heard of any of the other people. Poor Janis. She screamed alright.
…I haven’t heard of any of the other people.
You’ve never heard of Sinéad O’Connor?

Doesn’t that just break your heart?
Cranberry, it would have been more accurate for me to say I haven’t heard of most of the other people and I haven’t heard the ones I have heard of, like Sinéad O’Connor, sing anything. I’ve heard the Beatles, of course, but the song mentioned I didn’t remember any shouting in. I’m sure I heard The Animals, but I don’t remember any of their songs really.

I’m sure you must have. You’d probably recognize them if you heard them. What about House of the Rising Sun?

I suppose it’s more pop than punk, but I dig Tracy Bonham’s
Mother, Mother in which she crescendos into the shout:
“I’m losing my miiiiIIIIIIND – EVERYTHING’S FINE!”
I love that song…I’ve often thought it would be appropriate to just play it for my mother when she calls me rather than force myself to say it all again to her ![]()
Yep, I remember that. I’m sure I would recognize the more popular ones. I just looked at a discography—I recognized also “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and “We Gotta Get Outta This Place” (although this one I became more familiar with later as a song soldiers in Vietnam sang or something like that)–I was surprised the first album was as early in the 60’s as it was.
The Beatles beginning of “Revolution”
“Helter Skelter” would fit the description too, although they tend to scream throughout the song.

Eric Burdon also did some glorious yelling on War’s classic hit Spill the Wine.
For musical shouting in broken English, I STRONGLY suggest the 5, 6, 7, 8’s.
Those who have watched Kill Bill vol. 1 will remember them as the band that played before the outrageous fight scene with the Crazy 88’s. Those who have seen the Vonage commercials will recognize them as the ones who do the “Woo Hoo” song.
