should I buy the flute

So I found a wooden flute made of blackwood and it has 5 keys and fittings that all work properly. It is dead on as far as tuning is concerned, the dealer says, but there is no tuning slide. He says it is a french style flute made in Spain, it is very inexpensive, which is why I am asking. My only draw back is there is no tuning slide. I own an M&E polymer, but want that wooden sound and I want to try my hand at keys. I play with other people, thats why I want the tuning slide, but I could still use my keyless M&E, if it comes down to it. Should I go for it, the flute is only $250?

Absolutely, if you can return it after a trial period. Why not? Pulling out the head joint works just as well.

French style flutes are smaller than the Nicholson style, which is the style favored by Itrad fluters. It may not be designed to produce the type of powerful tone like the M&E (which is loosely based on a Nicholson style flute), it’s probably sweeter and softer, like the french.

Geeze, if the thing is in tune, and the keys all work properly, and don’t leak, buy the thing and tell the guy to order another 30 for the rest of us! I don’t care if the thing isn’t a cannon (as long as it plays well), it might not be a great session flute, but it would be great for playing at home.

If this isn’t a one of a kind, and isn’t too good to be true (which it sounds), then hook us up and let us know where to find these flutes!

I nearly bought this flute myself a while back. My emails with the seller where the same as yours. If it’s the same flute, back in May there were pictures on ebay, and it looked nice.

I wanted a tune cannon so I ordered a Seery instead, but I was very, very close to buying this flute.

For what it’s worth, that’s my 2 cents…

Eric

Wouldn’t that be worth right about 2 cents???

Seriously, though, Michael, that flute sounds like a great deal if it is what the seller claims. Since you already have an M&E polymer for when you need volume, I would say go for it. Enjoy!

Thanks guys, I am going for it.

Too many hours searching the web (there are some crazy places you can find wooden flutes, seriously) over for that perfect deal for the starving college student.

Unfortunately there is only one flute as he is not the maker, if there were more, I would definately tell you guys.

And it’s on the way,

Cool, glad you were able to get it. It’s a shame there aren’t more, but at least one of us had good luck  Post some photos when it arrives.
