Sheet music for Newfoundland tunes on the net

Does anyone out there know a site where I can download sheet music (in any format) for for Newfoundland dance tunes? (eg traditional NF reels/jigs/polkas, Emile Benoit & Rufus Guinchard compositions, etc.)

I’ve tried looking up some common tune titles in the most common archives (eg. JC’s ABC tunefinder), but to no avail.

Well, that’s a minority interest. I looked around and couldn’t find any tunes online. There is a web site for Kelly Russell and you can buy music from him. He toured Canada with Rufus Guinchard sometime in the 1980s and I bought a small book of Rufus’ tunes at that time. It also has a brief biography of Guinchard. Some of the tunes are good, some not. Dunno if they’re NF tunes, but there are several midi site links.

Use midinotation or noteworthy players to see the music score from the midi tune

Your best bet is probably Kelly Russell’s big book – I forget the exact name, and I’m too lazy to go find my copy – which has all the tunes Kelly ever heard Rufus or Emile play. There are some typos, and some odd transcription choices (may be closer to how Kelly plays the tunes than how either of them did) but overall an invaluable book if you’re interested in that sort of thing.
