My husband has been walking around the house whistling this tune that is at the end of the movie “Blackhawk Down”. We bought the Cd and found that the name of it is Minstrel Boy. I have been able to find the lyrics to the song on the net but have not been able to access the sheet music. The lyrics say the tune itself comes from an ancient Irish tune called “The Moreen”. If anyone could help me out I sure would appreciate it. Hubby is just dying for me to play it for him on the whistle and I am a bit too slow witted at this point to pick it up by ear!

The hardest part of Minstrel Boy is to stay slow and measured. Don’t let it run away from you, as I tend to do. It’s a lament, not a march. If I recall correctly, the version played in Blackhawk Down was REALLY slow - almost a dirge.
That is very helpful advice from all of you. I had been playing it perhaps a bit too fast..tho Dakota you make a point when you say it depends on your mood. Could be a march…could be a lament. I agree that it was intended to be a lament.
That IS true…in Blackhawk Down it IS a dirge…there is no better word. Very slow and mournful. That had got me wondering myself as I practiced yesterday..slow or fast?? My husband whistles it in this perky march way…very quick and jolly.
Will work on it again today…playing it slow and with emotion. Thanks again all!!
