Shaskeen opening, Manchester NH

NH’s latest pub, The Shaskeen, run by Louise and Tommy McCarthy, opened in Manchester this past weekend. In attendance were: Matt Molloy, Sean Keane, Jimmy Noonan, Michael Flatley, and other notables (les anciens). Gregg Heppe told me he walked right in and joined the session with no problem, contrary to published reports:

Anybody else go there? Jack…?

Yep…read note at the end of what does M. Flatley play…nice guy…

We had a great time…

Not to poo-poo the proceeding turn of the topic, I was able to put the question directly to Mr. Flatley this evening in Manchester, NH. He is playing his favorite flute, a “geezer” (realy !) Rudall & Rose, which according to Mr. Flatley, “was found in 4 seperate pieces, in 4 seperate pubs, and they all fit”. (he was playing quite well, as a matter of fact) He seemed quite unaware of Chiff & Fipple and had never heard of an M&E Rudall (he tried it and we cleared that one up on the spot !)

The occasion was the Grand Opening of the Shaskeen Pub in Manchester, NH. A real rolliking session (very disorderly..tsk tsk!) this evening…Michael F. and the Chieftains as the draw.

The flute “chorus” was comprised of:
Jessica Cawley
Michael Flatley
Gregg Heppe
Joanie Madden
Peter Molloy
Matt Molloy
Jimmy Noonan

i didn’t attend but the scoop i got is that while tommy mccarthy is owner (or possibly part owner), peter molloy (matt’s son) and john murphy will be running it, both fine musicians themselves.

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

And me out of New Hampshire, stuck here in Northern Uganda.
