I am on the other side of the pond, but two threads have been posted recently which leave me confused.
The first was the frequency (apparently) that secondhand sets by this maker come up for sale; and tonight, a post that tells of an instrument by this maker that is available by simple coincidence.
Having been reading this forum for a number of years I was surprised that the first of the threads mentioned implied a doubting the quality of this maker by virtue of the frequency that they are offerd for resale. I have recordings of good players using this fella’s pipes. Why doubt them, they sound great by the good players.
For goodness sake, there are enough charlatan makers out there. Give this bloke an even chance. Is it a case of follow the celebrity of the moment, the fashionable hicky, or stick with the proven; especially when his prices and delivery times seem more than competitive.
You forget that most in the past on this forum have sung his praises - stick with him, support him, DON’T knock him. The other makers will disappear before you know it.
I don’t think anyone doubts the quality of Gallagher pipes. I think the discussion was more on why in the past 2 weeks 4 or 5 sets of Gallagher pipes have come up for sale.
I do not know of anyone who is out to ‘KNOCK’ Mr. Gallagher or his pipes, on the contrary, I have heard nothing but the highest of praise for him and his instruments, As I have already stated, if I was lucky enough to have a set of his pipes, I would be very loathe to sell them.
I initiated this post because I thought it most unusual that 4 or 5 sets of his pipes came up for sale in such a short period of time ( 2 weeks )
As you will see from some of the replies, there are many reasons why this may occur, none of which cast any doubt on the quality of Mr. Gallagher’s pipes.
PS : I hope the other makers out there don’t ‘disappear’
