Sessions in Sydney, Australia

I will be moving to Sydney for four months this year from May to August and I was wondering what sessions people would recommend. It looks like I will be living in the Bondi Junction area.

I’m also looking for work, so if anyone is looking for an employee with multi-media computer skills or stage management experience, please send me an email!

Cheers,
Kevin

Kevin,

See http://thesession.org/sessions/search?day=&q=sydney

Also, get in touch with Paul Mortimer and Ben Stephenson (other channels) - I think they were behind a Thursday
night session at the Gaelic Club close to Central Station, which would be shorter travel from Bondi…see their link

Hey there, I live in Sydney

I can’t help you with the work problem (I’m looking for work myself, ain’t much in my field) but I’d love to say hi if you wanted someone to show you around the city.

I also have no ideas about sessions since I’m new to the pipes in terms of wanting to start playing them, which is why I’d love to meet and chat with you if you’re up for it, I could really REALLY do with some advice from an experienced player (as you can guess, not a lot of them out this way, least not that i can find).

I really wish i could help you on the stage management work thing, my only connections are in the amateur theater scene.
If you aren’t really up for talking with a pipes newbie though that’s cool, I hope you have a good time while you’re here

Clarky,
If you want to meet up with some Sydney pipers (of which there are only a few) drop by Kelly’s pub in Newtown on a Sunday night from about 8-8.30pm. There is a regular session there and a piper by the name of Glen Sheffer who attends pretty much every week. He’s a competent piper and reedmaker too. The session is ground floor near the main enterance.
I seldom get to that session due to life commitments, but you should definately drop by Kelly’s on Paddy’s day Sunday 17th. We will be playing tunes there in the upstairs section from about 4ish onwards. Bring your pipes and Glen and I will check them out.
Andrew

Andrew,

Can I drop by also. I am a new learner on the Uilleann pipes & would appreciate someone having a look at the pipes & give any tips that can.
