Sessions in Prague?

I’ll find myself for two glorious weeks in the capital of the Czech Republic in mid April and will have my flute with me. Anyone aware of sessions, or pubs (do they even have ‘Irish’ pubs in Europe? I remember none in England :wink:), that may have traditional Irish music? Heck, I’d even love to hear some traditional Bohemian folk music if sessions for that sort of thing exist.

Praha is a wonderful place, despite the enourmous number of tourists. Enjoy it. I’m sure there are “Irish” pubs there, probably very similar to the “Irish” pubs we have in the USA. I visited such a pub in Bratislava (Slovak Republic); i thought i had been beamed back to Chicago.

You may want to get in touch with Keltieg. They’re Slovaks, but they’re in the Czech Republic occasionally. Roman, the band leader, speaks good English. He may remember driking Kelt beer with me a couple of years ago (or not, beer does weird things to memory cells). Nice guy, great group, fun music. He may have more information for you (his email and cell phone number are in the group’s Web page).

Thanks for the tips Glauber! I’ll definitely check Keltieg out (both while I’m over there AND here if they ever tour the states).

Also, I’ve heard of this Kelt stuff - dangerous from what I hear :slight_smile:. I’m happy to hear of it because even though I will definitely sample the Pilsners from the land in which they were born, I’m really an Ale-guy at heart and two weeks of light, malty, filtered beer leaves a bit to be desired :smiley:

Any other recommendations?

Hi,

as I am from Prague, and as an Irish flute player, I wouldn’t recommend you the Irish pubs for music, for just one simple reason: there is no sessions there…

The best band playing Irish music in the Czech Rep. is Dún an Doras try to go to one of their gigs…www.dunandoras.cz

I would recommend you the web pages of Rinceori - a dance group from Prague, they have a gig list on their pages http://rinceoiri.aktualne.cz/koncerty/index.php

Don’t drink Kelt it’s brutal, look for Gambrinus :slight_smile:))

My favourite is Zlaty Bazant dark, but any beer you buy in that part of Europe is guaranteed to be better than anything you can get in the US.
