Sessions in London on a Thursday.

Hi y’all,

Beginning of next month (July 8th to be precise) I’m in London. Does anyone know of a session that takes place that evening ? Maybe I’ll be able to convince my darling wife to go visit :slight_smile:

I’m sure there must be some Londoners on C&F who can tell you more/better, but here’s what I can say, based on experience nearly a year ago:
I can point you to a couple of London sessions that I visited last summer. There’s one on Wednesday nights at The Nightingale, 51 Nightingale Lane, Wanstead, London E12 2EY (E London) which the excellent flute player Goretti Anglim attends with her fiddle-playing daughter Carlene, and one on Thursday nights at the Blythe Hill Tavern, 319 Stanstead Road, Forest Hill, London, SE23 1JB (SE London). I believe there are sessions at least periodically at the Hammersmith Irish Centre in W London (Google it), but I haven’t been there, and Orlaith McAuliffe puts stuff up on Facebook about a session somewhere in her part of NE London (I think). There is stuff on The Session, including the Blythe Hill Tavern sesh, but much there is out-of-date and obsolete, so treat it with caution and check things out in advance. You should be able to find phone numbers for all the above venues by Googling them.

Thanks Jem. I checked them all out and the one in the Irish Center is on Thursdays and is pretty closeby. I might even be able to convince the wife to check it out…
