Session humour (cartoon)

Well, it’s been about four months since I got hooked on the whole Irish session thing. I’m now taking whistle lessons from a wonderful teacher in Toronto named Karen Light, and am attending sessions at the Tranzac, thoroughly enjoying them. Thanks all for the advice earlier!

I’ve been taking notes about tunes being played during sessions in hopes that I can learn them at home. The response to my “Could you please tell me what tune you just played?” has been pretty consistent. I’ve created a cartoon to summarize my experience:

Good to see you back again Inky.

Brilliant cartoon, right on the money with the fiddlers answer.

Stick with it,it’ll all come good in the end

Slan,
D.

Funny. And true.

Plus, between the noise and the Irish accents, I can’t always understand them. It took me about twenty tries to hear correctly Scatter the Mud. I misherd it as Scatter the Cup and Spatter the Mud and Scatter Them Up and such.

Sometimes I can’t remember what the name of a tune is that I want to play, so I’ll just start it without telling what it is. Works out all the same.

Brilliant cartoon! I passed the page along to a couple friends who play the music.

Great cartoon!

In a similar vein, I’ve always been amazed at how many tune names start with “The One That Comes After ___________”

First time I asked about Banish Misfortune, I thought it was Spanish Misfortune, then I thought it was Maggy’s Misfortune…

And that wasn’t from an Irish man, that was from a Québécois man!!

I remember a time I asked after a tune’s name. “What was that? The Chinese Chickens?” Everyone had a laugh at my expense for it. It was Jennie’s Chickens, of course. Then there’s The Chinese Wedding…

Right on the money with that cartoon, Inky. I know of a lady who almost never knows a tune’s name, but she’ll say something like, “That was the one that came after the one before it.”

Inky, I have to say these are brilliant cartoons (not just the session one) I really enjoyed them!
