Yes, it is. I have found the posters of this forum to be fair in their evaluation of the whistles out there. This, regardless of the fact that the maker frequents the forum or not. I think this is quite a unique thing and one of the reasons so many of the mfgs of whistle do frequent the forum.

The Python Low D is described pretty well on the Shanna Quay website in the whistle section,

I kind of like it, but then, I’m prejudiced. :smiley: The only thing I will tell you from my perspective, is that I’ve made sure that people with slightly smaller than average-size hands (like me) can play it without piper’s grip.

You don’t use piper’s grip, is it possible?? I have a dixon low D it’s impossible?? What is the distance between fingers???

Fingerhole spacings are as follows (1 = top hole)
1 to 2 – 1.543 "
2 to 3 – 1.306"
4 to 5 – 1.343"
5 to 6 – 1.364"

All spacings are centre to centre. As you can see, the only one that exceeds 1.5" is 1 to 2, which is an index and middle finger, and usually is not a problem for anyone. That particular spacing was necessitated by the tweak to allow an in-tune OXXOOO crossfingered Cnat, which needs a smaller #1 hole to accomplish.

So, indeed, playing the Python Low D with a regular “whistle” grip, should be no problem for most people.

Can you talk about the hole sizes too? I am fairly new and they look pretty big to me!

1 to 2 – 1.543 “= 39.2mm
2 to 3 – 1.306”= 33.2mm
4 to 5 – 1.343"= 34.1mm
5 to 6 – 1.364"= 34.6mm
Length top 3 notes = 72.4mm
Bottom 3 notes = 68.7mm

Chieftain:
4 to 5 – 38mm
5 to 6 – 37.75mm
Length top 3 notes = 74.5mm
Bottom 3 notes = 75.75mm

Overton
4 to 5 – 26mm
5 to 6 – 43.25mm
Length top 3 notes = 72.25mm
Bottom 3 notes = 69.25mm

Burke Composite Pro
4 to 5 – 30mm
5 to 6 – 45mm
Length top 3 notes = 76.75mm
Bottom 3 notes = 75mm
