Sending whistles around the world!

Hey, gang, this is really getting exciting, the first meg went off to Maylasia yesterday! This is a lot of fun! People as me why, and I just like doing it!

(stares wide eyed) oooohh…

Couldn’t have done without the Ciff and Fipple gang! This is a lot of just plain fun!

Wheeeeeeee!!!

Malaysia? You mean apart from Caoimhin and I there are actually more? This sounds really good…but what timing..especially when I’m due to leave for New Zealand next year.

Yep,yep, yep, whistlers and Celtic music lovers everywhere!

Hi Anna,
I may have missed an earlier post…but what is it that you have done?
I sponsor a kid in Brazil and would like to send her one. Do I have to pay customs or duty on a gift, and if so, how?

Actually, if the value is just around five bucks, no tarriff…you fill out the customs form, and check the gift box. It’s a pain in the neck, the forms are so tiny. The first time I send some stuff to England, my poor recipient had to pay thoruhg the nose to get it out of hock! I think the cut off point for suty free is $100, and you have to mark the package “Unsolicited Gift and the value.”
It takes about a month to get to the Philpines unless you do Air Express! I enjoy it very much, sending whistles to people who want them, no strings…

Will you be getting one, Caoimhin?

I already have a Meg  and a dixon low  and OUT OF CASH.

If there’s really another (true) confessed player in Malaysia, hopefully anna put a tracer bug on it! Let the Whistle Wraiths seek out the whistle… and drag the lucky guy/gal into the chiffly fipply world of, uh, chiff and fipple!

I’ve been encouraging him to join up here, and sent you his e-mail addy! Introduce yourself!

Hey Caoimhin, how is it that a fella in Malaysia (spell?) uses the Irish form of the name Kevin? Or is it just a coincidence?

Whitmores, Malaysia is correct

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

[ Edited because posting at 3am makes me more prone to grammatical errors and I’m sure I’m commiting another one right now ]

If you wanna know, here goes:

-1 - Because I am the non-irish form of it
0 - Its a nick, “abo then!” (local slang!)
1 - Just so you know, I am not Irish.
2 - I’m a bit obsessed. Hard to explain in words, but simply put, parts of my chinese name coincidentally matches with Caoimhin  - big big thanks to my parents
3 - Some weird voice might have me believe I am just using a Malaysian body.
4 - It is my destiny, yada yada yada.

Hope it ain’t too confusing.

Thanks for that explanation, Choimhin (I think). I can see a sort of Chinese look to the word when it’s separted into Choi Mhin. I’d bet the pronounciation is very different. We say something like “kay-veen”.
Sounds like you are more Irish at heart than I am.
(I’m at home today with a case of the “runs”. I do actually have a life. Wait a minute, on second thoughts I have to admit that I really don’t have a life. But in any case, I’m at home sick.)

Tom

Given that the Meg is made in China, it’s probably fair to suggest that they have already been ‘around the world’ (from China to UK and back to the states) before Anna even gets them in an envelope to Malaysia. They must be dizzy!

We say something like "kay-veen

So that’s how you pronounce it… So there’s no ‘o’ involved I see? Mind if I ask about the syllables, as in which part sounds like what?

BTW, me chinese name when pronounced, goes pretty far off. Its a totally different world…
