Seeking bag for practice set

Anybody out there have an old bag from a practice set they don’t need that they might consider selling?

…my wife is not for sale, and I’ll thank you for not caling me a practice set.

Why not purchase and brand spanking new bag? One that hasn’t been despoiled by the caustic perspiration of another’s armpits and love handles?

John,
You can get a bag from almost any pipemaker. Though it will cost you a few scheckles and also to set it up and tie it in. I purchased a practice set primarily for the chanter and I don’t use the bag or the bellows. The bag is made of a synthetic material and I think that either it or the so-so bellows or connections need some work to eliminate leaks. But I would be willing to part with them rather inexpensively if you are interested. I also have a travel case as well if you are interested. Let me know.

invest in a good bag. my teacher always emphasizes bag control, something that will not develop as well with a synthetic. Michael MacHarg makes beauties, nice fittings. Seth Gallagher has very nice ones made for him and he too does quality fittings. either bag can be part of a full set eventually. drone-reg stock easily fitted later, when you get drones, preferably fitted in front of you with you there to get the location exactly right. should run less than 200 for the basic practice set bag. you will not regret it.

John,
How handy are you? You might try your hand at making one. You can make a vinyl one for less than $30. Here is a recent discussion on adhesives.

Then again, getting one from someone who makes quality bags is an option.

John, check your PMs. -gary

A bag from L&M in nova scotia or from MacHarg will not disappoint. Not the cheapest option but very good, they don’t need seasoning, and in my experience they’ll give years of trouble-free service. Suede-side leather outside, so they are easy to grip under the arm as well. www.landmhighland.com
I don’t have MacHarg contact info to hand. The MacHarg bags are riveted, the L&M bags are stitched. I prefer the latter personally.

Well worth the cost if you can manage it at all. NPU stocks them too.

Note that these bags don’t have the inlet valve or socket tied into the neck, but those are not difficult to fabricate.

Back when I was trying my hand at making vinyl bags (after seeing that Paddy Keenan used them with some success), I found I had to cut a clamping jig for it. Were you able to clamp it somehow without a jig? I suppose I should look at David Daye’s approach, but I’d be curious to know how others have handled the clamping problem.

Both very good bags. The L&M bag is based on a Seth Gallagher template, I understand.

I have used a pro grade contact cement for vinyl bags which required no clamping. I pounded the bejabers on the seam with a rubber mallet though.

Actually, they will make just about any size bag you like. Joe Kennedy also gets his bags from L&M, and gets different sizes depending on the style of set: shorter neck for goose-neck chanter top, longer neck for direct into the top chanter.

My old bag has been practicing on my set for years now, and she’s getting to be pretty good.

…uh…I’m not sure if I want to respond to this post…it don’t look safe.

No clamping needed. I just placed a pc. of plywood on top of it and added lots of weight. Conrete blocks, sandbags etc.
I just received some marine grade vinyl. I’ll see if there’s a noticeable difference between that and regular vinyl from a fabric store. That is as soon as my local boating store gets a new shipment of 3M Fast Cure 5200 in.
